some thoughts on shots!

hello! here goes nothing!...

Why you (and everyone else!) should get immunizations (including the flu shot)

Immunizations are not just for yourself but for the benefit of everyone around you. It protects people that are particularly susceptible to life-threatening diseases and it can even eradicate a disease if enough people get immunized!

Flu shots are especially recommended for children 6 months - 18 years. This isn't because children are particularly vulnerable to the flu but because children secrete the flu virus for a long time (longer than adults!) after they no longer have the symptoms and can transmit it to other people during that time. This is how older people, especially those 65 and older end up with the flu and die from its complications.

When the H1N1 vaccine comes out, it'd be a good idea to get that as well, because unlike the regular flu, research has shown that this year's H1n1 flu can cause permanent damage to your lungs.
